I was primarily trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, and the best way to describe this modality is that I assist my clients in understanding and reprocessing the origins of difficult emotions that often cause us to get stuck in our relationships and in the process of striving to better understand ourselves. I also employ mindful self-compassion work in order to help move individuals toward greater self-kindness and presence. I love assisting clients in becoming curious about their patterns and recognizing thought processes that no longer serve them in developing healthier relationships with themselves and others.
Typical first meeting
During our first meeting, I like to learn more about what is bringing you to therapy, acquiring a detailed overview of the history of the presenting issue leading up to the present moment. Throughout our first sessions, I like to learn more about your early life, any significant family history (including relationships with family), your support system, and any other relevant information that might be able to help us navigate challenges as we progress through your therapy. I always ask my clients to remember that they are the experts in their own lives, and I am simply here to offer you insights to help you heal through the challenges bringing you to therapy.
What I specialize in
I primarily specialize in sex and relationship therapy, but I have a sub-specialty in reproductive psychology. I was a labor and delivery nurse for 20 years prior to transitioning to the psychology world full-time, and I am particularly passionate about helping women navigate challenges that might arise during and after pregnancy, including pregnancy loss, birth trauma, and postpartum mood and anxiety challenges.
